2月26日 Going public (again)FYI: After several months of requiring permission to view this Space, I've decided to make it public again. I made it private mainly because I was worried about the potential effects on employment. However, I have decided that it is just not worth it. I have so many good ideas to offer the world that it is worth offending some narrow-minded potential employers. In fact, I think this might even help... Dear potential employer, if you do read my blog, you will gain insight into my life:
8月2日 Windows Live Spaces is here!Windows Live Spaces is finally here and to be frank, I'm kinda disappointed. There is not much that is changed. The themes are still quite dull and the only really exciting new feature is the Friends network thing. It allows you to discover new friends through friends of friends, friends of friends of friends, etc. but it is not that innovative since it is already quite familiar to users of myspace and other similar sites. Microsoft hyped up Live Spaces for months and all I can say is "it took y'all that long for this?!" Furthermore, I don't know who does the branding for Microsoft but whoever thought that the name "Windows" was cool and that attaching Windows to everything would make it sound really cool. Guess what?! It has the EXACT OPPOSITE effect!!! The "live" name is kinda cool, hence I changed my tag line from "The best MSN Space ever!" to "The best Live Space ever!" but when I think "Windows", I think: LAME! Same deal with the XBox 360: why is it WHITE?! I heard Microsoft is trying to get more girls to play but I don't think the reason they were not playing before had anything to do with the machine being black... Anyway, have fun and keep trucking, y'all! ~ Jonas "THE STEAMROLLER" "HETEROSEXUAL" Graham, esq., B.A., U.E. 6月30日 Run CommandsDid you know there are several commands that you can type in the Windows 'Run' box that allow you to launch programs faster? Try it! Go to the Start menu and select 'Run' or hold down the windows key and press 'R'. Then type 'calc'. That launches the calculator. There are plenty of others too including 'wordpad', 'notepad', 'sol' (for solitaire), 'spider' (for spider solitaire), 'iexplore' (for Internet Explorer), 'pinball', 'firefox', etc. Now, you can also create your own 'command' shortcuts by following a few simple instructions. These are REALLY hard to find. I remember finding them once, then forgetting how to do it, then looking for it again and spending hours with no luck! In fact, I stumbled accross a program that would do this for you for US $20. Totally not worth it! There is a way to do it yourself that is simple enough, if you follow the following instructions. Paste the following into a new text file: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\SHORTCUT.exe] @="FILE" "Path"="PATH" Go to save as, then set it as type "all files", then name it "run commands.reg" Now, use that as your template for whenever you want to create a new run shortcut. Just replace SHORTCUT, PATH and FILE with the appropriate entries. Replace 'SHORTCUT' with the run command that you would use. NOTE: Keep the '.exe' extension in there no matter what you are linking to. For example, 'fun.exe' Replace 'FILE' with the full path to the file. For example: 'C:\\Fun Folder\\Fun Subfolder\\Fun.txt' Replace 'PATH' with the path to the folder that contains the file or program or whatever that you want to link the command to. Put a ';' at the end. For example: 'C:\\Fun Folder\\Fun Subfolder;' NOTE: Use two slashes '\\' to seperate the folders in the paths instead of just one slash. For example, 'C:\\Fun Folder\\Fun Subfolder\\Fun.txt' instead of 'C:\Fun Folder\Fun Subfolder\Fun.txt' For websites, just use the URL (or "Earl") for both 'FILE' and 'PATH' Save your reg file and run it! This part is sometimes easy to forget so be sure to run it before you conclude that it doesn't work! Personally, I like to have the address toolbar on my taskbar. This allows me to launch anything I can launch from the 'Run' box directly from my taskbar. To do this: right click on a free area of the taskbar, go to toolbars and check 'Address'. I have it set up so well that whenever I want to check my e-mails, i just type: 'gmail' or 'hotmail' in the taskbar and it automatically sends me to the appropriate website. Or if I want to check what Maddox is rambling about today, I just type 'maddox'. You get the point... This little tip is incredibly convenient, really cool and hard to find out anywhere else. Go me! ~ Jonas "THE STEAMROLLER" Graham B.A. U.E. 4月1日 Foxit reader!I used to think I hated pdf files. I hated wating soooo long for Acrobat to open and then it would OFTEN freeze up and stuff. Then I found out that pdf is not the problem: it's Acrobat! I strongly reccomend that y'all go to www.foxitsoftware.com and download foxit reader. This program is just so much simpler than Acrobat. Waaaay less bloated. pdf files load in seconds and its probably got all the features that you'll ever need! Perhaps it might have some less features than Acrobat, but I haven't noticed so far. Now, I thought it didn't work on my comp before but that is just a direct result of it's simplicity. You see: it comes in a compressed folder. In that compressed folder is one file. This file is the program itself! It's not an install! Just move this file out of the zip folder and into 'program files' or something. Then, open it and go to help -> Set as default PDF reader. Then you've got to check your browser settings to make sure it will open Foxit for PDF and not Acrobat. This is not done automatically. But once this is done, you're set! And you'll never dread opening a PDF file again. Cheers! 1月31日 Billion Comments ProjectCheck this out y'all! Someone is trying to get a billion comments on his space. In my opinion, this is a great opportunity for Inter-space relations. Y'all know that MSN spaces is very personal. It is a personal publishing tool but there's also an important community element that MSN has worked hard to put in and this type of thing is a perfect example of that. So check it out: http://spaces.msn.com/djtranno1 |
